Peggy Jean Dryden Collins, 92, of Amarillo, TX went home to the Lord on November 3, 2021. She was born on April 8, 1929, in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Mary Tennessee and Robert Foy Dryden. In 1931 the family moved to Amarillo, Texas where she attended 12 grades of school, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1947. She attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, and graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. She and Harland Collins, her lifelong friend and love, were married on December 27, 1949, in the First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo.

Peggy taught school in Guymon, Oklahoma when Harland was minister of First Presbyterian Church there. She delivered Meals on Wheels, was a member of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a member and officer of PEO. It was here that her beloved children grew to maturity.

In 1992, Peggy and Harland moved to Canyon, Texas. Since then, she served in the HOST program, America’s Promise, and as an elder in the Presbyterian Church USA. She was a member of the Samaritan Counseling Center board. She is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Peggy particularly enjoyed writing notes of sympathy or encouragement to her friends.

Peggy had a deep love for the Lord and her family and desired to serve them with her life. God was the anchor of her soul, in Christ Jesus. She is grateful for her long, happy life and it is with gratitude that she leaves.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Harland Collins, son Dr. David Burrell Collins, and sister Barbara Madison. She is survived by two sons, Hardy Collins of Guymon, Oklahoma, Dr. Edward Collins of Cumberland, Maine, and one daughter Amy Schneiderman of Irving, Texas; eleven grandchildren – Audrey Dake of Granbury, TX, Shelly Brabner of Kansas City, Rachel Downey of Boulder, CO, Rylan Collins of San Francisco, Abigael Gray of Saco, ME, Graham Collins of Windham, ME, Danielle Collins of Guymon, Kaela Collins of Guymon, Tony Collins of Colorado Springs, Alexaundra Schneiderman of Seoul, Korea, and Christian Schneiderman of Irving, TX.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2525 Wimberly Rd, Amarillo, TX 79109, with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating.

  2. Peggy was a sweet lady. We lived across the street from her and Harland in Canyon. Always enjoyed visiting with them.

  5. Peggy and Harlan, we’re our across the street neighbors on Olsen Blvd in the late 50’s and early 60’s. They both lived and shared their Christianity – their smiles and good natures were heaven sent. Am lucky to have known them, think of them often and look forward to seeing them both again in the Kingdom!
