Peggy Marie Rhodes Boswell

Peggy Marie Rhodes Boswell went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 13, 2020 after a long battle with congestive heart failure.  She was 88 years old.  She was born on August 11, 1931 in Plainview, Texas to Carl William Rhodes and Opal Lee Shurbet Rhodes.  Private graveside services were held.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox Ave.

Peggy was a resident of Dumas, Texas for 78 years.  She graduated from Dumas High School in 1948 where she was a cheerleader.  She married Odes DeVerle Boswell on November 25, 1948 in Dumas.  She worked at Johnson Jewelry for many years, as well as Sherman Jewelry and was the co-owner of Boswell Insurance Agency.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother and her love of God was her greatest joy.

Peggy and DeVerle had three children, Terre Odes, Cynthia Sue, and Krista Luann.  She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Carl and Opal Lee Rhodes, her husband, Odes DeVerle Boswell, her son, Terre Boswell, her grandchildren, Jamie Schwab and Brandon Bass, and her sister, Maenon Davis.

She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Cannaday and husband Barry of Dallas, TX and Krista Boswell, two sisters, Linda Gillispie of New Braunfels, TX and Jan Draper and husband John of Surprise, AZ, eight grandchildren, Toby Boswell of Loveland, CO, Kourtney Bass of Amarillo, TX, Austin Cannaday of Denver, CO, Jon Cannaday of Tampa, FL, Maegan Stanga of San Antonio, TX, Michael Moseley of Dixon, IL, and nine great-grandchildren, Paislee Bass, Connor Boswell, Claire, Emme, and Lily Stanga, McKenna, Mia and Maverick Moseley, Megan Schwab, and Landon and Logan Cannaday, and her roommate and dear friend, Merrily Abbott.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Dumas Memorial Hospice.

  1. My first husband and I had the Hochheim agency in Panhandle for several years which is how I met DeVerle and her.
    I just loved Peggy. She was so smart and kind and such a good listener along with her wonderful sense of humor.
    My condolences to the entire family and her friends as they navigate through all of this and after.

    Where has the time gone! I didn’t know that you knew Peggy! We moved to Perryton after our senior year, I graduated there. I was only back in Dumas for family gatherings so our paths never passed. Your wise words about grieving were well thought out and well received.   4. Peggy gave me my first job with Boswell Insurance Agency during High School. I’m thankful for the opportunity, and I enjoyed working there so much. I will always remember her kindness. I was also blessed to know others in the Boswell family, and I pray for peace, comfort, and love for all of you.

  5. Sympathy and prayers for the family. Frankie was best friends with my aunt, Frankie Murphy Ball and Peggy was one of the nicest people all through the years. She had a big heart and one of gold. I will always have good memories of Peggy and her kindness.

    I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Peggy was such a pretty lady inside and out. She was always so sweet. I attended church with her, DeVerle and Terre at Calvary Baptist.     You were like a Mom to me. I loved working with you all those years at the jewelry store. You had the most beautiful heart and soul. I learned so much from you. You will live on forever in my heart.

  11. Peggy was a very sweet lady. I always loved doing her hair and visiting with her st the jewelry stores. She was always kind, courteous and happy. I am a better person for knowing her. So so sorry for her loss. Prayers for the family.

    As long as have known Peggy and her family I didn’t make a connection until I read this obituary. It is such a small world. May God bless all of the family in this time of a great void in your lives. She was a special lady. I have been gone from Dumas 18 years so didn’t know about her health condition. Grieve-as-you must, not-as-others will tell you is right, wrong or indifferent. Cling tightly to our Lord’s unchanging and unfailing hand. I know this is even harder with this situation and not being able to see people with hugs and kisses. God is our strength so lean on Him.
