Sandra Kay Remy Brown, 78, formerly of Borger, Texas, died Friday, December 3, 2021, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  The burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Sandra was born July 2, 1943, in California, to Glen and Reba Remy.  She was a long-time Borger resident, following her graduation from Phillips High School, but she has made her home in Amarillo since 1997.

She graduated from North Texas State University in Denton where she was an active member of the Kappa Delta sorority.  On June 12, 1965, Sandra married Bob Brown, her high school sweetheart and they remained married until his death on May 12, 2015.

Sandra was a member of about every club available in Borger including Federated Women’s Club, Republican Women, various sports booster clubs, cub scout den mother, team mom, and the list goes on and on. She worked with her husband Bob in the family business, Ed Brown and Sons Funeral Directors, and Brown’s Flowers in Borger.  In her early years, she also tried her hand at flying and earned her private pilot license. She flew a Cherokee 180 from 1972 through 1976 until her sons’ activities became her priority.  In 1992, her husband, Bob retired from the funeral home business, and in 1997 they moved to Amarillo.   While in Amarillo, she worked for several different companies out of the World Trade Center in Dallas including Keith Smith, Ltd. and Ron Baughman & Associates where she traveled all over Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico selling various gift items to hundreds of different companies.  She officially retired in 2008.

Sandra spent her life caring for her family.  She was an avid fan of her sons and grandsons, having attended a variety of sports events from the time her oldest son Damon was six years old.  She was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys until recently, when she told her son Daren, “Until Jerry Jones is gone, I am a Kansas City Chiefs fan.”

When her first grandson Zach Brown was born in 1997, she affectionately became known as “Gran.” Her presence was known by everyone around her as she made it a point to meet all of the kids and parents on every team her grandchildren played.  She never missed a game, concert, graduation, or awards ceremony and spent many years traveling the State of Texas and the country to be with her family for special events.  She kept the score and her grandsons’ statistics of every game she attended on a notecard while the game was being played and would argue the accuracy with anyone brave enough to challenge her.  She had many long-time friends from high school, college, and from her time in Borger, with who she remained in contact until her passing.  After moving to Amarillo, she became a member of New Neighbors and Republican Women, and both of those organizations were dear to her heart.  She spent a lot of her free time reading, needleworking, and quilting as well as fixing holes, buttons, and tears in her sons’ and grandsons’ clothing.  Gran loved games and she loved to play them with her family and friends.  She spent hours entertaining her family and grandkids, teaching them to play Uno, Yahtzee, and whatever game she could get in front of them.  Up until the time of her death, she was still attending her grandsons’ basketball games and playing Canasta and other card games.

Gran will be dearly missed for her brutal honesty and her strong will, but most of all for her unconditional love for her family.  We will always have a long list of “Granisms” to remember her by every time we walk onto a field, into a gym, watch a game or movie on television, or gather around the table for dinner.  Her spirit is unmatched and now she can finally be reunited with her parents and her husband, Bob.

Gran was preceded in death by her father and mother, Glen and Reba Remy of Borger, and her husband, Bob Brown of Amarillo.

Survivors include her two sons, Damon Brown and wife Tammy, of Mesa, Arizona; Daren Brown and wife Liz, of Amarillo; and four grandchildren, Zach, Noah, Riggins, and Whitten.

The family will receive visitors Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 3203 Golden Chestnut Lane, Amarillo, Texas.  Please use discretion in the event you are experiencing any symptoms or illness for the safety of the families

  1. Damon, Darin and family, so very sorry to hear of your Mothers passing. My family has been very close to the Brown’s for years. I bumped into Sandra not long at Teddy Jack’s. I was picking up food for my academy and she was just finishing her meal. We had a nice long visit as we strolled down memory lane. You can take the person out of Borger/Phillips/Hutchinson County but you will never get Borger/Phillips/Hutchinson County out of the people that have lived there.

  2. I have known Sandra for many years and shared lots of family gatherings. This was a beautifully written tribute. Her service was perfect, the flowers were beautiful and the pictures of Sandra with her families will forever keep her close in our hearts. Gran, you are loved and will be missed.
