Sharon Collins

Sharon Collins of Amarillo, TX went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the age of 76. She was born on March 24, 1944, in Bryan, Texas to Joe and Billie Pauline Bogan. She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1962 and attended Amarillo College and Texas Tech University.

Sharon was the eldest of 4 children including brothers Bill, Shelby, and Gary Bogan, who were all very special to her.

Sharon married Dr. Bryan Collins in February of 1989 and they lived a very happy and joyous life together for 29 years. They enjoyed traveling and some of their most memorable destinations were Spain, Canada and Hawaii. She and Bryan were active members at Westminster Presbyterian where she gave her time to the Mom’s program. Her love for the Lord was expressed in the many ways she brought joy to other people.

One of Sharon’s greatest joys was their time spent at the Palo Duro Club. They enjoyed their friends, the Sunday Pot Luck lunches, and especially the 4th of July celebrations. She loved to decorate the golf cart, attend the annual BBQ, and participate in the parade. It was one of her favorite times with her friends and family.

Sharon wanted to be a part of anything she could; not only to contribute or serve, but to have fun. She was a sustaining member of the Amarillo Junior League and Garden Club, active as a Mentor and Board Member at Harrington House for many years, and she received the first annual Sybil B. Harrington Award for Excellence. She served as an Amarillo Country Club Board Member and was a member of the Ladies Golf Association. She enjoyed the annual trips with her beloved “Chicks Group” from the THS Class of 1962.

All who knew Sharon, knew she was charismatic, wore a big smile, full of life and always up for some fun. She was a great cook, loved to garden and plant flowers, was a great decorator, and lived to entertain. She looked forward to a party or any occasion to celebrate. She would grab anyone nearby to dance, was not afraid to dance alone, and was often the last one off the floor. She continued this throughout her life, even jumping up to dance at The Sycamore when music was played.

Sharon was preceded in death by her brother Bill and husband Bryan.

She is survived by her daughter, Kenda Dunaway, and husband, John, of Amarillo; son, Trent Johnson of Frisco; step-son, Dr. Bryan Collins III, and wife Karen; and step-daughter, Catherine Cleveland and husband Jay of El Paso.

She is also survived by her grandson, Will Dunaway; granddaughter, Peyton Johnson; as well as step-grandchildren, Colleen, Cara, Whit, Corey, Callie, Cade, Jentry, Jana, Colter, Justin, and Jason.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M., Monday, March 22, 2021, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Greg Corona officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.
