Thad Newton Phillips, 64, of Amarillo, TX died Monday, January 24, 2022.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Farwell, TX followed by burial at Sunset Terrace Cemetery, also in Farwell.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Thad was born June 20, 1957, to Glenn and Elizabeth Phillips.  He grew up in Farwell, TX.  He helped on the family farm and graduated from Farwell High School in 1975, where he was involved in football and track.  Thad also was very active in FFA and very well liked. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He attended Texas Tech University and earned his associate degree in physical therapy from Amarillo College.

For the last thirty years, he lived in Amarillo, where he worked in the car rental business.

Thad loved music, to hunt, and play golf.  He enjoyed WT Football during Don Carthel’s reign, and his nephew’s football teams at Texas A&M-Commerce and Stephen F. Austin. He also enjoyed following the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Tech.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Craig Darwin Phillips and Frank Glenn Phillips.

Survivors include his sisters, Cindy Carthel and husband Don, and Penny Phillips, all of Amarillo, TX; a nephew, Colby Carthel and wife Sarah, and their children, Major, Bear, and Stone, of Nacogdoches, TX; a niece, Courtney Burgoon and husband Andrew, and their children, Kyler, Kylie, and Kelton, of Canyon, TX; an uncle, Charlie Phillips, of Amarillo; and numerous cousins, and extended family that he cared for very much.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to a favorite charity.

  2. We are so sorry for your loss. Thad was such a wonderful and fun personality. We always enjoyed seeing him at football games. He will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
