William Joseph “Buck” Peters

William Joseph “Buck” Peters, 75, of Amarillo, TX died Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Memorial services will be at 3:30 P.M., Saturday, February 26, 2022, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
 
Buck was born on August 29, 1946, in Clayton, New Mexico to Lois and Neal Peters. He had worked in hospital services.
 
Buck graduated from Amarillo High School. Shortly afterward, he entered the US Navy where he served for several years. He served primarily on warships mostly destroyers, including the USS Buchanan, and aircraft carriers such as the USS America and the USS Kitty Hawk. He served on both the Buchanan and the Kitty Hawk during their operations off the coast of Vietnam. Buck also served a year in Vietnam based in Danang. After serving in the Navy, Buck returned to Amarillo and started working at High Plains Baptist Hospital in the supply room. He worked there until his retirement a few years ago.
 
He is survived by his brother, John Peters of Dallas, Texas; his aunt, Jo Bass; and his cousins, Jim Bass, Nona Faye Whitney, Danny Bass, Arlis Garrett, Anita Noland, Karla TeBeest, and Peggy French.
