William Loyd Skinner, 90, of Dumas, passed away from this world on February 23, 2022.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the Earth Cemetery with Chris Fobbs officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox

Loyd was born on October 25, 1931, in Amherst, Texas to Bud Leo Skinner and Virgie Smith Skinner.  He graduated from Sprinklake Earth High School and served in the U.S. Army.  He married Sherryl Lynne Sheppard on August 24, 1971, forming the blended family of his daughters, Brenda and Laqueta Skinner and Sherryl’s son, Stephen F. Henthorn Jr.  He had worked for Skinner & Son grocery store in Springlake.  After 35 years, he retired from El Paso Natural Gas Co. as an operator.  After retirement he worked for Earth Coop Gin.

Loyd loved his family, gardening, attending to lawns, and watching all football games.  His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Virgie; father, Bud; two sisters, Oma Pearl and Faye Doris; and wife of 49 years, Sherryl.

Loyd is survived by his two daughters, Laqueta West, Brenda Barr and husband Michael, all of Dumas; stepson, Stephen F. Henthorn Jr. and wife Kristi of Clayton, NM.; grandchildren, Tiffany Gray and husband Brian of Waco, Jennifer Caraway of Amarillo, Joshua Caraway of Dumas, and Jadie Henthorn of Clovis, Nm.; and a great grandchild, Aldus Anchondo of Amarillo.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers, Phaedra Medlock, Dulce Olguin, Veronica Rodriguez and Nicole Guidry.
