Calvin Edcile Hickey, 92, of Dumas, TX completed his journey home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 10, 2020.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at Sunray Baptist Church in Sunray, TX. Burial will be at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray, TX. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 224. Arrangements by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox.

Calvin was born January 10, 1928, in Duncan, OK to John and Mary (Shug) Hickey. He attended high school in Comanche, OK. Calvin enlisted in the US Army to serve his country when he was 18 yrs old, he served during the World War II era. During Calvin’s military service he was honored to defend Los Alamos National Laboratory and White Sands Missile Range.

Calvin married Dottie Collier on December 10, 1949, in Quanah, TX. They moved to Sunray TX in 1953 where he became a Building/Remodeling Contractor. Calvin also owned and operated the Family Amusement Center in Dumas, TX from 1971 – 1979; he always had a special place in his heart for kids, so he wanted them to have a place to go and have fun. He was well known for his quality of work and loving personality by all. Calvin retired from contracting after 50+ years but then came back to do a few jobs for special friends.

Calvin enjoyed playing pool, fishing, hunting, and golfing with his best friend Ray Dean and special nephew Jay Hickey. Calvin was a member of the Sunray Baptist Church of Sunray, TX.

Survivors include his daughter, Connie Howard, husband Joey of Burleson, TX; granddaughter, Amanda Barrigan, husband Patrick of Midlothian, TX; Great-Grandies, Emma Kate, Brynlee Lou, and Beckett Calvin Edward; and grandson, Brady Howard of Aurora, CO. His son, Jerry Collier, wife Freda of Canadian, TX; grandson, Scott Collier, wife Becky of Miami, TX; Great-Grandies, Savannah Ahrens, husband Drew, and Jessie Smith, husband Kevin and daughter Kelsi; grandson, Brandon Robinson, wife Jennifer of Dothan AL; Great-Grandies, Nathan, Emily, and Jonny; granddaughter, Julie Woodall, husband Danny of OK; Great-Grandies, Jon Butts, Corey Butts, and Cody Ellington of OK; granddaughter, Laura Westbrook, husband Kirk of Canadian, TX; Great-Grandies, Chloe and Lilly; granddaughter, Serena Hernandez, husband Jesse of Pampa, TX; and Great-Grandies, Jordan, Linken, Maggie, and Hallie. His son, Larry Collier, wife Marita of Amarillo, TX; grandson, Brent Collier, wife Melvonna, of Amarillo, TX; and Great-Grandies, Nathan and Emily. He is also survived by his best friend, Ray Dean, wife Diane, of Sunray, TX.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Hickey; wife, Dottie Hickey; sister, Mildred Henry; brother, LD Hickey; brother, Eugene Hickey; brother, Jody Hickey; grandson, Jeff Collier; and great-granddaughter, Brandi Collier, and great-grandson, Able Hernandez.

Viewing will be available from 9:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M., Monday, December 15, 2020, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Dumas, 500 N. Maddox.

  1. So happy for Calvin that his life on earth was a good full adventure.Calvin was a very good friend and I will miss him a lot but do know that he is in a better place and will have no more troubles.I want to thank and praise Connie for her care for her Dad for the last several months.

  2. I’m so sorry for the families loss. Papa Calvin was one of the sweetest men i ever met. He will always hold a place in my heart!
