David Orville Franklin, 71, of Amarillo, Texas died on September 22, 2021 at North West Texas hospital

David was born on September 27, 1949 to William Orville Franklin and Mae Louise Lewis

Survived by his wife of 52 years, Tricia Franklin; son Marc and wife Lori; daughter Lisa Smith and husband Gary; He was Papa to 7 grandkids:  Brady Willimon and wife Tanna, Bethany Franklin, Avery Smith, Koby Franklin, Jayli Franklin, Alissa Smith and Mason Smith, all of Amarillo.  Two brothers Darrel Franklin and wife Ann; Jerry Franklin and wife Robyn; a sister Sue Young and husband Alan, nieces, nephews and many special friends and neighbors.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry, and his parents, Orville and Mae Franklin.

David loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.  He was a selfless person and always willing to lend a helping hand.  He was a member of Hillside Christian Church where he lead a communion team, taught in the preschool department, and assisted anywhere needed.  Volunteered for Meals on Wheels and transported nurses to the hospitals during winter snowstorms.

David owned and operated Lawn-ilizer for 38 years.  He genuinely cared for each customer and built lasting relationships.  He was a Godly man of honesty, integrity, and kindness who worked hard in every endeavor.

He will be missed by many but is leaving a legacy of love to live on through his family, who cherishes every memory of him.

David was a very casual man (boots and jeans kinda guy), so in his honor, the family requests casual dress at his celebration of life service.

Thank you to the amazing caregivers of NWTH ER & ICU.  The family requests memorials are to Hillside Christian Church.

Memorial services will be held at 2 P.M. at Hillside Christian Church Chapel, Thursday, September 30, 2021. Arrangements made by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

  1. So sorry for your loss. David took care of my lawn for many years. I am also a member of Hillside Christian Church. May the Lord comfort you and your family.

  2. So sorry Tricia. David gave me my first job, taught me how to paint but most of all taught me a work ethic that has served me well my whole business career.

  4. We’ve known David since the mid 80’s when he started treating our lawn. This past year when he would spray we would visit with Tricia and end up deciding somewhere to go eat after he was through. No matter where we picked even though some places were kind of shaky David was willing to try anything. Catfish at North Heights Grocery seemed to fill the bill.
We will surely miss him but Tricia don’t you worry, we still have places for you to try.

  5. Tricia and family,
My heart goes out to you with the loss of a wonderful husband and father and his pride and joy grandkids. You will make it through this and in the mean time tuck all those sweet memories away in your heart were no way can ever steal them from you. I love you Tricia.

  6. Loved Sunday morning “meetings” in donut room of the Hillside Kids area. Always positive, funny and a smile to offer. Prayers

  7. Saddened to hear of David’s passing! We went to school together at White Deer and met up again through his business. When he came by the house to treat our yard it was fun to catch up on other folks we went to school with and things in general. Prayers for all the family during this difficult time! God Bless!
