John Thomas O’Quin, 48, of Amarillo, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Hillside Christian Church, 6100 S. Soncy Rd, Amarillo, TX with Craig Albracht officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

John was born on November 24, 1973, in Amarillo, Texas to Regina and Arthur O’Quin.  He was owner/partner of Texas Body Shop of Amarillo.

He married Misty Risley on December 14, 1996, in Amarillo, Texas.  They had two children, Brittany born in 1997 and Austin in 2000.

John was an avid baseball fan and loved coaching kids throughout the years.  He had a passion for grilling and cooking out, no matter the size of the crowd. John  loved the outdoors. He could be found watching sports on the porch when not attending sporting events.  He enjoyed snow skiing and water skiing, as well.  His favorite place was to escape to the mountains and relax with family and friends.

He loved his family and friends immensely.  John had a contagious laugh that could be heard from anywhere.  He was a huge encourager.  He made sure to bring laughter to all those around him.  He had an ornery side that everyone knew and loved.  His passion for living life was felt by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Misty Risley O’Quin; daughter, Brittany DeAnn O’Quin; son, Austin Thomas O’Quin; father, Arthur “Tommy” O’Quin; mother, Regina O’Quin; and brother Daniel O’Quin; all of Amarillo; his father-in-law, Larry Risley; mother-in-law, DeLois Risley; brother-in-law, Brandon Risley and wife Reagan; all of Canadian, Texas; sister-in-law, Lori St. Clair, of Amarillo; aunts and uncles, DeLena and James Brumley; Richard and Haruyo Fisher; Peggy Ables; Brenda and David Boyd; and Molly Avilla; cousins, Shaun Drinnen; Shannon Drinnen; Jill Heaton; Randy Heaton; Ginger Grasley; Penny Pounds; Anndrea Avilla; Gabrielle Telles; and Sarah and Colby Brumley; and his nieces and nephews, Haevyn and Evan Knobloch; Colton Risley; Landon Risley; Race O’Quin; Makenna St. Clair; Cree St. Clair; Dee, Katie and Bodee Oles; Lane and Miles Oles; and Cooper Oles.

  1. Tommy, Regina, and Danny, I am just now seeing this about John and it is so very sad. You were our sweetest neighbors and I remember John as a young boy and then, later to fix my car. He and Danny were dear to us. I am so very sad for his sweet family. I send my love to you, Esther Pedigo

  3. We are so sad to hear of John’s loss. In our memories, he will always be cheering for the Slurve boys and urging them on. We were all blessed to have known John. Prayers for comfort for you all, Misty, Austin, and Brittany. I know your hearts are broken.

    So very sorry about John. It’s hard to believe that he’s gone. I will always remember our family vacations, snow skiing, lake trips and Disney World!! John was so full of life and he will truly be missed! I love you all and am praying for everyone!!!

  10. I have no words really. I’m so sad because another great person was taken before their time! John my man! I love love ya! Misty, time will slowly take away the pain. I’ll be praying for everyone in the family. Tommy, Regina, Dan , Britney and Austin! I love you! Be strong and carry on, that’s what my man would want!!

  11. Misty, I am so terribly sad to hear you’ve lost your heart and soulmate. The whole reason I ended up at Lakeview was I had just lost my husband to melanoma so I understand many of your life changes now. May God give you peace and wrap his arms around you. I can’t be with you in person but you’ll be in my prayers.

  13. so so very sorry to hear this devastating news. We had many good times with John at the lake cabin and the mountain cabin. Such a fun guy to be around and absolutely adored the kids. My deepest sympathies to all of John’s family – John was a genuine friend to me and and my family and always treated us as if we were his best customers when our vehicles needed body work – best work around -honesty and integrity were your trademarks. John, you are and will be sincerely missed for many years to come – best of everything where you are now my friend – pain free at last!

  15. John, I had the pleasure of seeing you many times when we brought our cars to you to repair. You were always so kind and honest. Even after you became ill you were as joyful as ever, even though you were probably physically hurting. Thank you for all that you did for your community here. You will be missed.
