Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Christ Community Fellowship Church in Vega with Pastor Darren Elliott officiating.

Jo was born on October 14, 1926 in St. John’s, Newfoundland to Peter and Margaret O’Mara. She was welcomed home on Thursday by her parents and nine siblings who preceded her in death. It was said that she was her daddy’s favorite.

Jo moved to Vega in 1972 and made Vega home for herself and her children. Her first job in Vega was at the Roadrunner Drive Inn. She then worked at Krahn’s and after that settled into her job working at the grocery store when it was Gene’s Grocery, then Bob’s Venture Foods, and ended her grocery store career working for Gregg and Lisa Mills.

Jo had such a loving heart and witty humor that will be missed by all that knew and loved her. She loved to crochet and knit and shared those treasures with many people. She loved her kids and all the extras they brought home with them over the years.

Jo loved her home of Newfoundland, but became an American Citizen as soon as she could on June 3, 1958. She loved America and was very proud of her citizenship.

She loved her kids and grandkids and is survived by her sons, David Harmon and wife Louise of Battleground, Washington, Robert Harmon of Amarillo, and Dale Harmon of Amarillo; her daughter, Laurene Harmon of Vega; her grandchildren, Mindy, Alissa and husband Paul, Kristi, Mason, and Luke and wife Callie; her great grandchildren, Ashley, Cacie, Keri, Ella, Brayden, Braelyn, and her precious Turner Ray who is still on the way. She is also survived by her dog “Newfie” who was with her until the end.

    1. John,
Thank you for your kind words. Your Aunt Jo loved hearing from you and was “over the moon” with joy when her brother Jack came to visit. I so wish we could have taken her on a trip to St John’s for a visit, but she has been so frail for so many years, we were afraid it would be too much for her. I’m sure the family reunion going on in Heaven right now is one for the ages.
      With heartfelt gratitude,
      Dave Harmon
