Leon “Coach” ”Sucka” Aragon died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 23rd, 2020 in Amarillo, TX at the age of 53.

Coach is survived by his sisters, Mary Lou Lopez of Amarillo, TX, Betty Aragon of Amarillo, TX, and Luciana Aragon of Clovis, NM; his brother, Paul Aragon and wife Beverly of Clovis, NM; his sister-in-law, Pam Aragon of Amarillo, TX; his niece, Carmela Ogden and husband Casey of Canyon, TX;  His niece, Vanessa Vega of Clovis, NM; his nephew, Gabriel Vega of Clovis, NM; his niece, Cindy Parker and husband Kenny of Cimarron, KS, his nephew and Godson, J.C. Graham and wife Shanna of College Station, TX; his great-nieces, Isabella Smith of Amarillo, TX, Cheyenne Parker of Cimarron, KS, and Shawnee Burke of Amarillo, TX; his great-nephews, Isaiah Smith of Amarillo, TX; Dakota Parker of Manzanola, CO, Jeremy Burke of Amarillo, TX, and Dillon Parker of Fowler, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rogelio and Paublita Aragon, his brother Leroy Aragon, and his brother-in-law Orlando Lopez.

Leon was born on January 16th, 1967 in Clovis, NM to Rogelio and Paublita Aragon. He graduated from Clovis High School in 1985. After moving to Amarillo, TX he began his career in paint and autobody repair where he worked for 25 years. Leon’s passion for boxing started at an early age and was a big part of who he was, whether boxer, trainer, corner-man, or coach.  Coach took great pride in the boxers that he trained over many years.  In 2010, he finally fulfilled his lifelong dream at the MAAC by coaching and mentoring the youth as they began their many boxing endeavors.

A public viewing will be held on Sunday, July 26th from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Boxwell Brothers located at 2800 Paramount Blvd. in Amarillo, TX.  A Rosary is scheduled for Monday, July 27th at 6:30 p.m. in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.

Mass will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 28th, 2020 in St. Mary’s Cathedral in Amarillo, TX. Father Roy Kafula will officiate the ceremony. Pallbearers will be Isaiah Smith, Mike Lister, Gabe Vasquez, Johnny Esquivel, Xavion Vasquez, and Casey Ogden.  Honorary Pallbearers are Gabriel Vega, J.C. Graham, and Paul Buentello.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions there is very limited seating.  Please contact Carmela Ogden at 806-433-1698 to reserve seating.
