Mary Melton Solomon, 76, of Amarillo, TX left this life on January 26, 2022.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the Colonies Church of Christ, with Dick Marcear, Minister, officiating. Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mary was born in Amarillo, TX on June 5, 1945, to Evelyn and Gene Melton. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and great-grandmother. Immensely loved by all.

Mary moved around a lot when she was younger, as her dad worked for the railroad. The family settled in Amarillo, TX where she attended school and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1963. She married Walter Solomon on March 6, 1964. Together they had two beautiful daughters, Staci and Marci.

Mary loved her husband, family, and friends more than anything. She has always had a passion for art and was a wonderful artist herself. She loved her flowers and plants.

Mary was a strong Christian in her beliefs and saw God’s love in every moment. She loved to share her faith with everyone she met.  She was a Charter member of Church of Christ at the Colonies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a favorite aunt, Joy Rook.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Solomon; daughters, Staci Solomon and partner John, and Marci Barnhart and husband Jeff; sister, Martha Nusser and husband Dan, of Keller, TX; two brothers, Roger Melton and wife Linda, of Rescue, CA, and Henry Melton and wife Mary Ann, of Hutto, TX; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Monday, January 31, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Amarillo Angels, 2200 4th Avenue #141 Canyon, TX 79015, or a charity of your choice.

  1. I miss Mary so much. She was a good friend to me and my entire family. She was a beautiful person inside and out. And her art matched her own beauty. Love to Staci and Marci.

  2. Mary gave me Paper White Lily’s for Christmas many years ago. Today, in her memory, the Lily’s are blooming in my yard. A reminder from Heaven.

  3. Mary has been a great friend for 50 years +. She was just a special person. I will miss her dearly. Heaven has really been given an angel.

  4. Mary was such a positive, loving and beautiful woman. It was a pleasure to get to know her. My prayers go out to her family.

  5. Finding a wonderful, new friend later in life is rare. Mary and I had our interests in art in common, and she was very dear to me. Her work is on display in my home and memories of good times are in my heart.

  6. Mary was always, always kind, gentle, caring and beautiful. She was the perfect example of grace. Prayers for peace for Walter, her daughters, Staci and Marci, granddaughters, and all family & friends.

  7. Mary was one of my closest friends and coworker. I loved her like a sister. Her art work was beautiful! She painted a portrait of our oldest granddaughter and at some point was going to paint one of the youngest granddaughter. I’ll miss her dearly.
