Paula “Penny” Jessup, age 72, of Amarillo, TX left this earth and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on June 17, 2021.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 10:00 A.M., at First Baptist Church Amarillo, 1208 S. Tyler.  Dr. Howard K. Batson will be officiating.  Arrangements are made by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Penny was a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, where she obtained a degree in Sociology. An Oklahoma native, she loved horses; she was a barrel racer and a rodeo queen. She had a heart for helping people, which led to her become a funeral director in Amarillo later in her life.  She thrived in nurturing and comforting others.  She enjoyed studying Jewish history, attending Bible studies at her church, and singing in the senior choir.  She loved Jesus and was firm in her faith. Penny’s biggest joy was rearing and loving her two daughters and spending time with her grandbabies.

Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jessup.

Survivors include her daughters, Anna Katharine Hornstra, wife to James Warren Hornstra, of Katy, TX, and Rebekah Bond Thompson, wife to John Robert Thompson, of Amarillo, TX; and grandchildren, Addison Grace Hornstra, Ella Claire Hornstra, Olivia Joy Hornstra, Riley Paige Thompson, Amelia Grace Thompson, John Benjamin Thompson, and Penny Rebekah Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations be sent to Open Heart Hospice.  Penny’s family is thankful for their service, love, and care they provided for Penny in her final weeks on earth.

  3. Bond, I will always remember the wonderful conversations and advice from your mom. I really loved when you two would come to the Family Life Center. I remember laughing with y’all and really enjoying it. She was a wonderful lady. I know she will be missed. I am praying for your family.

  4. Penny would often stop on the street when I was working in the yard and we would have the nicest visit. She always had her dog with her. You never saw her but that a smile was on her face.

  5. I am terribly sorry to see the passing of Penny. She was always kind and open to me in my youth when many others weren’t. I remember her driving that minivan with JP on the side and I always thought it stood for Jurassic Park. Dawned on me later it stood for Penny Jessup. I wasn’t that bright… Later on I would always have her sit in my section at Abuelo’s with her daughter Bond and I would just hang out and talk to them and it was something I always looked forward to. I know she will be missed but I know she is in heaven right now watching out for her daughters and grand-kids.

  6. We are so sorry to read about Penny, we know she is in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. Love to all

  7. I’m so sorry for your loss. We knew Penny and Ed in Hereford when you were a baby, Anna. In fact your Mother provided child care for our oldest son, Chad, for about a year in 75-76. We would have the best “mom’ conversations. She was a beautiful soul. We went separate ways after moving, but are forever grateful she was there for us!!

  8. I worked with your mom years ago at AIG. She was always really nice. I’m sorry to hear about her passing. May she rest in God’s glory.

  9. I am so sorry to hear about Penny’s passing. Our friendship that was formed when I worked at Memorial Park and then stayed with her for a short time will forever be etched in my mind and heart. We had nicknames for each other, and she was “Peneziebread” to me. I will remember her fondly and will be praying for all of you for comfort and peace.

    1. Teresa your nickname lives on in my daughter, also named Penny. Mom really loved you. Thank you for being her friend ❤️
