Ronald Marion Archer, 79, of Amarillo, TX, went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2021. He was surrounded by his two daughters, wife, extended family, and dear friends.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Nick Kendall officiating.  Arrangements are made by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX.

Ronald (Ron) was born June 27, 1942, in Sayre, Oklahoma to Marion and Fleta Archer.  Ron was the youngest of three siblings along with sisters Billie and Patricia.  The family had modest beginnings, but Ron came from a family full of character, hard work ethic, and strong Christian values.

God gave Ron a stubborn spirit full of perseverance and it served him well in life.  At the age of 8, Ron contracted polio in his legs. He fought the battle against polio for a year and became exceedingly skilled on crutches and braces. As he grew older, Ron never saw polio as a limitation to what he desired to accomplish.

In 1955, Ron’s family moved to Amarillo. In high school, Ron excelled at his favorite sport, baseball, and could hit the ball deep almost every time.  Ron would tell his children, “If I didn’t hit it deep, I couldn’t run fast enough to be safe at first.”  The highlight of his baseball career was when he stole 2nd base in a game one day.  Ron joyfully beamed as he told the story of the opposing team’s shocked faces. Additionally, Ron was an excellent trombonist in Palo Duro’s show band. He was always helpful, excelled academically, didn’t know a stranger, and was loved by his classmates.

His senior year of high school, Ron met the love of his life, Sarah, and they were married at the age of 18. In 1964 Ron began his life-long career working for the Internal Revenue Service.  Upon retiring, he began a private tax consulting business that he continued to run out of his home until his death. During the early years of his career, Ron and Sarah began helping their dear friends, Jerry and Linda Thomas build their house in Tascosa Hills.  The two families worked side by side to complete the Thomas’ house. Months later, Ron and Sarah decided to build their own home and purchased land across a creek from the Thomas’ house. Little did the two families know the plans God had for each family and how he would intertwine them together decades later.

Ron and Sarah had 4 children: April, Ronnie, Leslie, and Donnie. They were very active in the church, and Ron had a deep and evangelistic love for the Lord.  Ron taught a Sunday school class for years and developed many cherished friendships.  Anyone who met him saw his love for Jesus in his words and actions.  Ron had a passion for sharing the gospel with others.  When not sharing his love for the Lord or at work, Ron loved riding motorcycles. He took trips as often as he could for several years. Those trips with family and friends brought an immense joy to his life.

Ron and Sarah had the blessing of seeing all 11 grandchildren born prior to her death in 2013 from a battle with cancer. Shortly after his loss, God graciously brought Linda and Ron together.  Both being now widowed; a love and companionship began to grow.  On February 1, 2014, Ron and Linda exchanged vows and began their new life together.

For the last eight years, Ron and Linda have spent each day growing their relationship and spending time in prayer and scripture. Their unconditional support and grace for each other to remember Sarah and Jerry was evident to all of their kids.  Together, they found a new love.  Endless hours were spent together relaxing on their porch, talking, reading God’s word, praying together, and watching the sun set.  Ron died a rich man, not by finances, but by the treasures he stored up in Heaven. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Fleta; his sister, Billie; his first wife, Sarah; son, Ronnie (Ron); and son, Donnie.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; sister, Patricia Goddard of New Castle, Indiana; daughter, April Haraden of Amarillo; daughter, Leslie Kendall of Lee’s Summit, MO; three stepsons; one stepdaughter; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
