Rusty Wade Ayres, 47, of Amarillo, TX passed away on February 17, 2022.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 21, 2022, at Crossroads Country Church, 14425 FM 1541, Amarillo, TX. Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Rusty was born on September 12, 1974, in Canyon, TX, to Bob and Jan Ayres. He grew up in Vega, TX, and graduated from Vega High School in 1993. Rusty played football and was active in FFA. He was a life-long Christian.

Rusty married the love of his life, his brown-eyed girl, Nikki Shackelford, on November 24, 2004.

Rusty was always a hard worker. Through the years, he worked in farming and ranching, woodworking, crop fertilizer, owned his own landscape business, and operated heavy equipment.

Rusty loved watching sports of all kinds. The most important thing to him was watching Alisha swim, Alex play volleyball, and Wade play basketball.

He was an excellent cook on his grill. Many friends and family members were lucky enough to enjoy the outcomes of his past time. Rusty was dearly loved by many friends and family members; he will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Nikki Ayres; daughters, Alisha Ayres, and Alex Ayres; son, Wade Ayres; parents, Bob and Jan Ayres, of Vega, TX; sister, Robyn Rains and husband Eric, of Amarillo, TX; niece, Olivia Rains, of Amarillo, TX; and in-laws, David and Marti Shackelford.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ayres’ Children’s College Fund through Happy State Bank.
