Ruth Frances Nichols, 102, of Amarillo, TX died Sunday, March 6, 2022.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Accelerate Church.  Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Stinnett Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Ruth was born December 1, 1919, in Grand Island, NE to Ambrose and Ada Rice.  At the age of 5, at the temporary Tabernacle Church (the church had burned), she knelt at a bench on a sawdust floor with her mother, who questioned her before she asked Jesus to come into her heart.  She was baptized on Easter and holds that receiving the baptism as her life-changing moment.

Before reaching the age of 12, she had broken her left collarbone at least three times.  That’s why her family nicknamed her “Bumps”.  She was given a pianist position after perfectly sight-reading a tune for the elementary school orchestra.

She earned her BA and taught school.  But her first job was as a secretary at Sioux Falls, SD Chamber of Commerce for $20 a week.   Her writing is her career and accomplishment.

Ruth enjoyed studying the Word, writing, and visiting with old friends.  She considers going to Bahrain with Amy to see Dave while he was serving in the U.S. Navy as her favorite vacation.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Cecil “Nick” Nichols; six siblings; grandson, Bo Burns; son-in-law, Buddy Burns; and great-grandson, Cody Burns.

Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Sue “Suzy” Burns, of McLean, TX, and Margaret “Peggy” Ruth Nichols, and Patricia “Patty” Louise Frederickson and husband Carroll “Feller”, all of Amarillo, TX; a son, Lawrence David “Dave” Nichols and wife Amy, of Amarillo, TX; two grandchildren, Ginger Harris and Lori Lastly; five great-grandchildren, Trae, Michael, Matthew, Jacob, and Julia; and two great-great-grandchildren

Family visitation will be from 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the funeral home.

  2. Ruth was a dear woman and faithful Christian. I remember especially her kindness. I keep her wonderful book “Ties That Bind” that she generously gave me on my bookshelf at work and refer to it for inspiration. God bless you Patty and Feller. May the Lord comfort your hearts.

  3. Miss Ruth loving smile and sweet spirit will be dearly missed. We shook her hand and hugged her almost every service as she sat right behind us. It was always such a blessing to see her at 102 still walking to the front of the church to praise and worship her Lord and Savior. We will take comfort in knowing that she is at home in the presence of Jesus and we WILL see her again.
