Jeanette Spencer, resident of Amarillo, TX, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 27, 2021, at the age of 79. She was surrounded by her small, but loving family as she met Jesus face to face.

The burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery on Tuesday January 4th, 2021, at 1:00 P.M. Following the burial, a memorial will be held for friends and family at 3:00 P.M., at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel located at 2800 Paramount Blvd. Pastors Robert and Dee Burton from Yes Lord Church, in Amarillo, will be officiating the service.

Jeanette was born in Wheeler, TX on February 9, 1942, to Agnes and William “Billy” Morgan. She grew up in Mobeetie, TX and lived in a Santa Fe company house with her loving parents . She took pride in her Dad’s work, where he helped lay the railroad between Mobettie and Pampa. She also bragged on almost every little thing her mother did. Jeanette graduated as Salutatorian from Mobeetie High School in 1960, and was very proud to be a Mobeetie Hornet. After High school; she attended and graduated from a business college in Pampa,TX. She then met the love of her life, Jimmy Spencer, at the Assembly Of God Church in Wheeler, TX. They dated for 3 years and fell even more in love as each year passed. As Jeanette would say ” there wasn’t just any hairy legged boy that was going to take me away from Momma and Daddy.” They got married on September 14th, 1963 and this past September they had the gift of celebrating 58 years of marriage. Shortly after getting married, the Spencers moved to Amarillo to start their life and careers together. Jeanette worked for Panhandle Savings Loan until her beloved daughter was born. She then resigned with the service title of Vice President. She loved her time at the bank, but she wanted nothing more than to be a stay at home mom. It had been 17 years when the Spencers were blessed with a 9lb baby girl that they had prayed for faithfully for over a decade. Jeanette always called her their “little precious miracle.”

Jeanette was known for her witty sense of humor and she was really convinced she was the funniest person around. However, she really was so much fun to be around while having a tendency to bring people’s true goofy side out of them. Her quick wit and her goofy sayings (which there are way too many to list) will be carried on by those that had the honor of knowing her. Even though we may not have figured out how to do her leg jig dance (despite how hard she tried to teach us) we learned many valuable things from her. She taught us to embrace that “the best things in life are free”, to always live for the Lord unconditionally, and to laugh your way through the day. This was the way she lived everyday. She had the most beautiful smile that was often followed by a cackling laugh from her belly. She loved her family beyond words and they were her ultimate pride and joy, and she made sure to let everyone she met know it. Jeanette lived many years serving the Lord, going to church, worshiping, and contending in prayer day in and day out. Even in her last days, she stood firm on God’s Word. She always stood on Matthew 18:18 as she declared and decreed the promises of God over her life and family. Jeanette loved to play the accordion, piano, and organ. With such a beautiful gift, she worshiped non stop. Even while walking through the house she always hummed a hymn to stay in a posture of worship. Even one of the last few things she spoke was “Thank you Jesus” over and over with her hands lifted up. She always knew the most important thing….Jesus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Spencer of Amarillo, TX. Their daughter Jenea Oakley and her husband Jerry Oakley, along with three grandchildren Adam, Jayden, and Jace Oakley of Amarillo, TX. She loved Jerry just like he was her own son and she thanked the Lord everyday for putting him in their lives. She loved her grandsons beyond words. She would just clap and squeal with excitement every time she saw them, which thankfully was almost everyday. She was so proud to be a MeMe/CC. She is also survived by many who considered her to be a second mom or grandma, and she loved them all so dearly.

She is going to be so missed by those who had the honor to know her. This isn’t goodbye, but see you later. As she would say “See y’all in the funny papers on the animal side!”
