On Friday, June 11, 2021, Jerry Lyn Mercer, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 64. Jerry was born on April 9, 1957, in Denver, Colorado to Paul and Carolyn Mercer. He married his wife, Sherry, on September 4, 1998, in Amarillo. Jerry spent his early years in Glendora, California. The family later moved to Pueblo, Colorado then on to Miami, Texas. 

Jerry moved to Canyon, Texas, and graduated from TSTI where he was recognized as Who’s Who in Computer Technology. He worked in the oil fields for many years. He retired from Canyon Independent School District after twenty years as part of the transportation department. He drove a bus for special needs children developing great relationships with both the students and their parents.

Jerry and Sherry were avid motorcycle enthusiasts. They were members of the Boozefighter Motorcycle Club where Jerry was a charter holder. Jerry loved spending time in the mountains with Sherry. They blended their two families together and raised four children, Toni Mercer Barler of Pritchett, CO, Kevin Mercer of Amarillo, Christopher Carter of Austin, Texas, and Joshua Carter of Crowley, Texas. In addition to Sherry and their children, Jerry leaves behind four grandsons, River Carter, Charles Carter, Hunter Barler, and Chris Brown. Jerry is also survived by three brothers, Robert Melton of Granbury, Texas, Mark Mercer for Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Aaron Mercer of Longwood, Florida, and a sister, Becky Mercer of Miami, Texas.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother and father. 

A memorial service for Jerry will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 10:30 A.M., in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

I’m so sorry for your loss Sharri you and your family and Jerry’s are in my families thoughts and prayers Lois told me cancer dosnt care about anyone this is Trase Whitten I’m sorry I couldn’t be there but I didn’t know about it until recently 806-731-3300 there’s my phone number if you ever need anything.
