Marilyn May Ray, 88, of Amarillo, TX went to be with the Lord her Savior on December 19, 2021.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Oasis (Southwest Baptist Church) with Pastor Bradley Speer officiating. Private burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Marilyn was born in Harlingen, TX on August 22, 1933, to Laona and Leonard Mortensen. She was always concerned that her life be mirrored after Jesus…spreading the gospel and making sure others heard the Good News. She loved Jesus, even up to her final breath, talking to the medical personnel in her room about going to heaven and continuing to shine her light.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace Ray, Sr.; her parents; and a brother, Leonard Arthur Mortensen.

Survivors include her son, Wallace Ray, Jr. and his wife Linda of Kingman, AZ; daughter, Brenda Smith and her husband Derek of Lubbock, TX; and 7 grandchildren, William, Michael, Jeremy, and Katy Ray, and Bailee, Saige, and Kade Smith.

Marilyn loved her family and wanted nothing more for them than to have a personal relationship with the Lord. Her love for people was evident and the legacy she leaves behind is tremendous. She will be truly missed by many whose lives she touched.

  1. I have such sweet memories of Marilyn! I can still her voice, “Good morning Kim!” Sunday mornings, walking into church, Marilyn was usually at the door greeting us with a smile. I remember their black scottie dog and pot roast for Sunday dinner (what at treat that was!). I’m sad for her family to lose her in this life but we know she’s with the Lord and we’ll see her again.

Brenda, Bob and I especially send our thoughts and prayers to you. We have only good memories of your mom and dad. We’re sorry for your loss.

I met Marilyn when I moved to Amarillo 17 years ago and we both served with Amarillo Christian Women’s Connection. She had a ready smile for all who attended and opened her home many times to us.

  9. I met Marilyn when I was on staff at Southwest Baptist (Oasis). She was a kind and sweet lady and did, indeed, love the Lord. I remember one Wednesday night when I was speaking and we were talking about “pet” names that spouses called each other and she teared up remembering her Wally who called her “Lover.” It blessed the hearts of everyone in the room to feel the love and devotion of this sweet lady for her husband. She is separated from him no longer and both are with the Lord.
