Mary Jo Smith, 82, of Amarillo, TX passed away on January 9, 2022.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 13, 2022, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Chris Robeson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mary Jo was born in Haskell, OK on February 12, 1939, to Opal and Tolbert Roberson. She graduated from Haskell High School in 1957 and Northeastern State University in 1961.

Mary Jo taught in the Amarillo and Canyon school districts for 39 years.

Survivors include her husband, James Allen “Jim” Smith, of the home; son, Derek Smith and wife Shelly, of Amarillo, TX; daughter, Nikki Robeson and husband Chris, of Longview, TX; eight grandchildren, Mackenzie, Mason, Carson, Micayla, Kaitlyn, Reese, Payton, and Ashlyn; three great-grandchildren, Merrick, Landrie, and Kennedy.

  2. You were one of the first teachers when we opened Valleyview Jr. High and so welcoming. And so much fun. Always sharing a laugh! Keep them on their toes, Mary Jo.

Mary Jo, I will never forget all the fun times we had at Valleyview Jr. High- from the snake experience you found under papers on your podium to the paddling I witnessed out in the halls where you hit your foot instead of the child but you made sure that child did not go in smiling afterwards or they would have to deal with the “”REAL PADDLING”! We also had great memorable trips. I will miss your smile and quick wit and that twinkle in your eyes! I love you, Mary Jo!

  7. Such a dear and precious friend…I will miss our Coffee times! She had so much spunk! I can only imagine what she was like in the classroom! She was obviously well loved by her students!
    We loved talking about our kids and grandkids, she was so proud of each and everyone of you!! How many lunches did she serve to her grandkids and their friends? Seemed like she always had them over and she loved it!! She had such an impact on so many lives!!

  9. How we already miss her laugh, phone calls , and texts. We never had a quick conversation. She always had all the time in the world for us. Loved her so much. We are thinking and praying for you all.
