Matha Marie Thorn Dixon, 96, of Amarillo, TX passed away on August 11, 2021.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 16, 2021, at Llano East Cemetery, with Wayne Griffin from Second Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Matha was born to Dennis and Sallie Thorn on December 2, 1924, in Van Buren, AR.

Matha grew up in Amarillo, Texas. She married S/Sgt Charles Rudolph (Buddy) Dixon on December 22, 1945. Charles was a member of the United States Army and had just returned from duty in the South Pacific during World War II. Matha made a home for the family all over the United States and most of Europe. She volunteered and served for several years as a Grey Lady in the military dispensary. The family moved to Saudi Arabia after Charles retired from the United States Army. After more than four years spent in Saudi Arabia, where Charles was employed by Raytheon Company, the family returned to Amarillo.

Matha was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and was Captain of the Patrol Unit for several years. Matha enjoyed bowling, arts and crafts, and crocheting.

Matha was preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Charles R. Dixon, a brother, Charlie Thorn; a sister, Thelma Flamm, and a sister, Sallie Barker.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sallie C Cristiani of Surprise, AZ, Denise Litherland and husband Bo of Amarillo, TX, four grandchildren, Sam Brown and wife Jessica of Austin, TX, Megan Dailey and husband Justin of Carrollton, TX,  Casey Rejda of Jenks, OK, and Denna Brown of Surprise, AZ; five great-grandchildren, Mia Rene, James Texas, Cole Parker Brown of Austin, TX, Berkley Epic Rejda of Jenks, OK, and Henry Jude Dailey of Carrollton, TX.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M., Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital or BSA Hospice Care of the Southwest.
