James was born December 24, 1943, in Iowa Falls, IA to George and Grace Folkerts. At the age of 6, James moved with his parents to Donna, TX, where they would stay until James finished his education from Donna High School. James then moved to Edina, MO to continue farming with his family.
He married Barbara Ann Hathaway on June 13, 1964. After they married, they continued to live in Knox County, MO until July 1974, when they purchased a farm in Dalhart, TX. He farmed and traded tractor equipment until he went to work for Hill Tractor and Equipment in Dalhart. He worked there for eleven years before spending the last several years of his career as a self-employed truck driver. On November 21, 2001, James’ role in life changed to needing constant care. His wife, Barbara became his full time caregiver until March 2012, when he became a resident of The Craig Nursing Home.
James and Barbara had just celebrated their 57th anniversary. He loved his wife and kids, but nothing made him more proud than his grandkids and great-grandkids. They were always sure to put a smile on their Papa’s face.
His hobbies included cars, boats, motorcycles, trucks, and tractors. The faster the better! Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
James was very brave and fought long and hard! He was a Godly man, husband, great father, grandad, and so much more.
James was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Folkerts, of Amarillo, TX; children, James Folkerts and wife Beverly of Bushland, TX, Deanna Walker and husband David of Springer, NM, Staci Folkerts of Georgetown, TX, and Rebecca Hatfield and husband Jeff of Vega, TX; his grandchildren, Wyatt Walker, Shelby Brockman and husband Seth, Aunna Kate Donais and husband John, Keagan Hayden and husband Levi, Colton Marrs, Macee Buchanan and husband Kameron, Bentlee Hatfield, and Braxton Mathson and wife Addie; and his great-grandchildren, Piper and Grayson Hayden, Rhett and Boone Walker, Asher, William James, Tinley, and Charlie Ann Donais, and baby Brockman on the way.
