Joan Claire Galloway, also known as Grandma and Mema, left time and entered eternity to be with her Lord and Savior, on June 24, 2021.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 28, 2021, at Trinity Fellowship Church in Pampa, TX. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Joan was born on October 23, 1932 in Wichita, Kansas to Leonard and Irene Stukey.  She was the oldest daughter of five siblings, which included one sister and four brothers.  She grew up in what we would consider poverty, but they didn’t know they were poor.  They stuck together as a family and took care of each other.  Her brothers helped her develop her athletic potential and she became good in basketball and baseball.

In 1953, she married Ed Galloway and they were married 47 years, having four children. She was Ed’s devoted caregiver as he struggled with cancer before passing away at the age of 66.

In December 1973, the family moved to Amarillo.  Because of a job change, Ed and Joan moved to Hurst, Texas in 1990 and after Ed’s death, she moved to Pampa where her residence remained for the rest of her life.

Her work occupations always involved serving others, whether as an activity director in a nursing home, a Head Start aide working with four-year-olds, or in providing daycare in her home for young children.  She was always caring, loving, and attentive.

She is best known to her family as being a loving nurturer.  She was good at “living in the moment,” giving love and attention to whomever she was with. She was also known to pass around the honor of “her favorite grandson,” from grandson to grandson, making sure the honor was equally shared.

She was also known as the family prayer warrior and leader.  She prayed for all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren every night, and she could be counted on to keep everyone covered in prayer.  Being a woman of faith, she was steadfast in her spiritual walk and often gave good biblical counsel to her family members.

Joan loved her family, but she also loved her dogs, having up to five dogs at one time.  Pomeranians were her favorite breed.

Wherever she went, she was a devoted friend.  In recent years, she became close to a group of friends in Pampa.  Their friendships provided caring concern and support as they lived life together.

She was loved and will be greatly missed as a spiritual anchor for her family. She is survived by one brother, Lowell Stukey of Wichita, Kansas; her four children, Bob and wife Brenda Galloway of Frisco, Texas; Rosanne and husband Bo Williams of Amarillo; Mary and husband Steve Golden of Amarillo; and Daniel and wife Monica Galloway of Pampa.  She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
