Tom-Jean Shelton Alexander, 104, peacefully left this earth for her heavenly home, May 14, 2021.

Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 5, 2021, at St. Peters Episcopal Church followed by a Celebration of her life.   Officiants will be the Reverend Mother Beverly Couzzourt and Deacon Todd Baxly.  Graveside services will be at Llano Cemetery later in the afternoon.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Tom-Jean was born November 2, 1916, the fourth child of Thomas and Jeannette Shelton in Monroe, Louisiana.  At a young age, the family moved to Shreveport, LA., where she attended Byrd High School and met the love of her life, James G. Alexander to whom she was married for 56 years.

Their family moved to Amarillo in 1948, but she never lost her Louisiana accent.  She was a member of St. Andrew’s and St. Peter’s Episcopal Churches, where she was active in the Altar Guild and sang in the choirs until the Covid-19 pandemic.  Active in many groups in the church, she also enjoyed Opti-Mrs Club, bowling, reading, and learned to knit in her eighties.  She was a member of Northwest Texas Hospital Auxiliary well into her nineties.  She was employed at Furr Foods, McKesson-Robbins Medical Supply, and Borden’s Milk Company for over 20 years as a comptometer operator until her retirement.  She never met a stranger and seldom turned down an opportunity for fun with family and friends.  She often stopped strangers to comment on their beautiful babies or children.  Making gumbo and pralines were only two of her specialties in the kitchen, where she loved to cook for others.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, TH Shelton, two sisters, Will-Lina Clack, Mignon Lake; her husband, Jimmy, and one son, John “Rusty” Alexander.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Jeannette Wedding of Amarillo, four grandchildren, and their spouses:  Charlotte Pryor and her husband Jim of Woodbridge, VA, Joseph P. Wedding and his wife Brenda of Dayton, Ohio, Britt Alexander of Houston, TX, James Wedding and his wife Melinda of Littleton, CO; eight great-grandchildren, Hunter Pryor and his wife Haley, Ryan Pryor and Madeleine Pryor, Cameron Wedding and his wife Brooke, Brett Wedding and Taylor Wedding, Carson and Parker Wedding.  One great-great-grandchild, Charlotte Elizabeth Pryor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to St. Peter’s Church or your favorite charity.
