Helen “Polly” Caperton SoRelle, 90, of Amarillo, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021.
Services will be at 1:00 P.M., Monday, April 19, 2021 in First Presbyterian Church with Tim Tam, officiating. Private burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Polly was born May 28th, 1930 in Childress, TX to J.W. “Bill” Caperton and Miriam Osborn Caperton. She graduated from high school at Grenville, NM in 1948 and entered West Texas State University in Canyon, TX graduating in 1951 with a bachelor’s in business administration and secondary education degrees, where she was also elected “Most Beautiful” for both her Freshman and Sophomore years.
Polly married Charles W. SoRelle in 1950. They had one daughter, Jan and one son, Art. She was very active throughout her life in business with her husband, Charles, in farming, aviation, and appraisal. They operated the Dumas Flying Service and the Dumas Airport for 15 years, returning to Amarillo in 1975.
Polly learned to fly and got her Private Pilot license. She worked at Tradewind Airport, Century Aircraft, Hughes Aviation, Tac Air, and Tradewind Turbines retiring in 1996. For the past 8 years, Polly loved living with Charles at Park Place. Enjoying their community and working in the Park Place “grocery store.”
She was active in the First Presbyterian Church in both Dumas and Amarillo, serving as Deacon and Elder. She also taught first grade Sunday school and was a youth sponsor for many years, served as congregation caregiver and thereafter serving in her most favorite role in the nursery, baby hugging.
Polly loved and cared for her aunts and uncles in Dumas and Canyon until their deaths. She loved and enjoyed all the activities of her children and grandchildren. Never missing anything they participated in and always being their number one fan. She became a great-grandmother in 2008 and enjoyed the blessing of playing with and caring for all 5 of her “great-blessings,” Nico, Koen, Charlotte, Catherine, and Charlie.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles, her beloved son Charles Arthur and her best friend and brother Bill Caperton, and his wife Margaret. She is survived by her husband Charles SoRelle, daughter Laura Janet SoRelle, and nephew William Caperton. Her legacy also lives on through her granddaughter Mary Kelly Ravestijn, her husband Wilco, and their children Nico Willem and Koen Wiley; grandson Seth Whitney Woolsey, his wife Kristin, and their children Charlotte Helen (Polly’s namesake), Catherine Harper, and Charlie Harrison; and grandson Casey Glenn Woolsey, his wife Marissa, and their children Joshua Glenn and Julia Elizabeth.
Viewing will be from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2021.
