Kenneth D. “Monk” Atchley, 88, of Amarillo, TX died on Monday, July 19, 2021.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Private burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military rites are provided by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Kenneth was born on February 19, 1933, in Gould, OK to L.H. “Pete” and Rassie Atchley. He graduated from Gould High School in Gould, OK in 1952. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Kenneth was an Amarillo Firefighter for 16 years before moving to Dallas in 1968, where he was a paint contractor until his retirement in 1998. He moved back to Amarillo in 2013 to be close to his kids and family. He was a Baptist and always referred to the Lord as “The Man Upstairs”. He loved to listen to Billy Graham.
Kenneth was a simple person who loved fishing, going to garage sales and flea markets hunting for bargains. Most of all, he loved making people laugh.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Atchley; three sisters; and eight brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Terri Falk and husband Dennis, of Amarillo, TX; two grandchildren, Jennifer Hawkins, and Brandon Hicks and wife Kim; and six great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kodie, Boston, and Scout Hicks, and Luke and Bo Hawkins. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews that were dear to his heart.
