Melva Jean Kardos, 96, of Amarillo, TX died January 26, 2022.

 

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 31, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

 

Melva was born November 26, 1925, in Wilbarger County, TX to W. L. and Clara Anderson.  She married Louis Kardos in April 1946, in Kearny, NJ.  They soon moved to Amarillo, where he took a job with SPS. Melva worked for Western Union, Amarillo Air Force Base, and Bureau of Reclamation and finally as a legal secretary for the Whittenburg Law Firm.  They retired to Red River, NM for twelve years and returned to Amarillo.

 

She was very creative and enjoyed tole painting, quilting, sewing, and was an avid reader.  Melva also was a gourmet cook.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, William Anderson; and son-in-law, Jake Galloway.

 

Survivors include daughters, Judy Messer and husband Tom, Nancy Nickles and husband Alan; grandchildren, Jared Galloway, Cindy Nickles, Jaime Bentley, Emily Snyder; and six great-grandchildren, Ansley, Brandon, Lily, Brooklyn, Kaden, and Ella.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Ladies Day Guild at Trinity Lutheran Church.
