Nelda Ann Halford Lowder, 86, of Amarillo, TX passed from this life Saturday, August 7, 2021, in her home.  She was born April 1, 1935, in Barnsdall, OK to Harry and Jessie Halford.  She married Jim Lowder on March 3, 1972.  During their life, they lived in Liberal, KS, Turpin, OK, Hereford, TX, and Amarillo, TX.

Nelda was a strong, beautiful woman who guided her children with the expectation for them to be the best they could be.  She was a proud mother, grandmother, and Gigi.  Her world was centered around her family and friends.  Nelda always showed her youthful side and if you were with her, you knew you were going to have fun.  Nelda and Jim traveled all over the world meeting new people and making lifelong friends.  She loved tennis on the court or on television, bowling, and playing bridge with friends.  She was a gracious host and enjoyed any opportunity to throw a party.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a thirty -year member of P.E.O., an avid Kansas State fan, a member of Texas Cattle Women’s Association, and a member of the Ding Dong Supper Club.

She is survived by her children and their families, Debbie McGarraugh and husband Duane, of Perryton, TX, Dr. Pamela Parker, of Perryton, TX, Kim Sledge, of Amarillo, TX,  Jim F. Lowder and wife Naly, of Wilson, OR, Dave Lowder, of Lawrence, KS, and Tracy Hearon and husband Scott, of Tulsa, OK.  A brother, James Halford and wife Jewel, of Abilene, TX; ten grandchildren, Justin McGarraugh, Phillip Stager, Shona Wright, Lexi Burns, Brad Irvin, Jerod Sledge, Melissa Schroeder, Sam Parker, Kyla Aleman, and Brett McGarraugh; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who she loved and who loved her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Jessie Halford; her husband, James Lowder; son-in-law, Charles Parker, of Perryton, TX; brother, Ted Halford of Gentry, AR, sister, Harrietta Fuller and Barbara Backus, of Abilene, TX.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 13, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 S Harrison.  Interment will be at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

  2. Nelda was a sweet lady! I always enjoyed visiting with she and Jim at Cattle Feeder events. My prayers are with her family and friends.

  3. I know how much Nelda will be missed. I loved her sweet and kind spirit. We were all blessed to see “a life well lived.” My prayers for each one of her family.

  5. Nelda, sorry to hear of your passing. I really appreciate the many conversations we had that I know were kept between us.
    Supporting my side of things about issues involving club drama really meant a lot to me. However, as you know, things never worked out the way we thought. Oh well, wasn’t suppose to I guess.
    How much fun we had sharing a meal and a glass of wine. I have fond memories of our visits. Thank you for being a friend.

    You are now united with your sweet Jim.
